DUTIES OF THE REGISTER OF DEEDS OFFICE
The Register of Deeds Office is responsible for recording all transactions relating to real estate in Jackson County. This includes deeds, mortgages, oil and gas leases, and platted additions to all cities in the county. The office also files financing statements and agreements on personal property under the uniform commercial code, federal and state tax liens, mechanics liens on personal property, corporation papers, powers of attorney, county school records, and military discharges. Please remember the Register of Deeds is the recorder of documents, not researchers. We will not be responsible for any missed documents. Contact a title company or abstract office for a complete record search.
EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2014
The Register of Deeds Office will no longer accept documents without a 2 inch blank space all the way across the top of the first page of each document. Also, we will no longer be able to email or fax copies unless payment is made in advance. ALL DOCUMENTS FILED REQUIRE A SELF ADDRESSED, STAMPED RETURN ENVELOPE.
SOME CHANGES - JANUARY 1, 2015
All pages with a mortgage are subject to recording fee charges. Mortgage Registration Affidavits will NO LONGER BE FREE TO RECORD. They will be considered an additional page and recording fees need to be paid accordingly.
MORTGAGE REGISTRATION TAX
The amount to be collected changes from .0026 to .0020 for 2015. Multiply the mortgage amount times .0020 to find the amount of mortgage tax to be submitted.

Jackson County has been electronically accepting documents for recording since June 2013. E-Recording allows document submitters to prepare and transmit documents quickly and securely, and the recorded documents are returned immediately, rather than waiting for them in the mail.
In order for a document submitter to transmit documents to Jackson County electronically. They must use a service provided by one of two approved vendors.
